Mizoram is essentially Bamboo country like its neighbouring Manipur and Nagaland. ' Phawngiri or ' Blue Mountain ' is the highest peak in Mizoram towering to a height of 2157m.and located close to the Myanmar border. The Dampa Wild Life Sanctuary was established in 1976 to protect some rare animals like the Tiger, Wild Elephant, Leopard, Hoolock Gibbon, Swamp Deer and Wild Goats besides other varied birds adorned with vivid colours.
